Landfill could be greener than recycling when it comes to plastic bottles

For regions with adequate space and little recycling infrastructure, disposing of bottles in landfill generates a lower carbon footprint than recycling or incineration. Από τους 38.000 τόνους μπαταριών οχημάτων που εισήχθησαν το 2008, ανακυκλώσαμε μόλις τους 8.000! Οι υπόλοιποι μεταπωλήθηκαν, θάφτηκαν ή αποτεφρώθηκαν κρυφά, θέτοντας σε κίνδυνο τη δημόσια υγεία. Και όλα αυτά με την ανοχή -αν όχι τη στήριξη-της Πολιτείας! Διαβάστε περισσότερα...

California to Mandate Recycling for Businesses, Apartments

California residents not living in permanent housing may no longer have to deal with the frustration of searching for recycling options. The state’s Integrated Waste Management Board (IWMB) is formulating a program meant to encourage businesses, apartment complexes and mobile home parks to institute recycling. The mandatory recycling directive would most likely set goals for cities and counties, allowing them to implement individual programs as long as they comply. A draft proposal will be released this year, and state law requires the plan to be implemented no later than Jan. 1, 2012. Read more...

Νέο σύστημα ανακύκλωσης, που θα παρέχει ένα είδος «επιβράβευσης» του πολίτη, θεσπίζεται με απόφαση που υπέγραψε χθες ο υπουργός ΠΕΧΩΔΕ. Θα είναι συμπληρωματικό με τους μπλε κάδους, που θα συνεχίσουν να λειτουργούν, ενώ προβλέπεται η ενίσχυση των δήμων ώστε να μην καταλήγει το περιεχόμενό τους στα... απορριμματοφόρα, όπως ισχύει σήμερα σε σημαντικό ποσοστό. Microsoft Recycling Program Halves Redmond HQ’s Waste
