Italy Goes Solar With First Sun-Powered Road

Most people will be surprised, but Italy was the first country in the world to build motorways. In fact, the A8 "Milano-Laghi" motorway ("Milan-Lakes", as it connects the city of Milan to Lake Como and Maggiore) was completed in 1926. Time has passed and all developed nations now boast wide motorway networks, a strategic infrastructure that helps interconnecting people, places and is ultimately essential to economic growth. But Italy will soon be able to claim a new "first": the A18 Catania-Siracusa motorway, a 30km addition to Sicily's 600km motorway network, will be a fully solar-powered motorway, the first in its kind. EC pursues legal action in the Campania and Lazio regions of Italy

The European Commission is continuing legal action against Italy over two cases involving violations of EU waste legislation. The Commission is taking Italy to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) over the waste crisis that has plagued Naples and the Campania region. It is also sending Italy a first written warning for failing to comply in the Lazio region with an ECJ judgement that found it in breach of its obligations to adopt regional waste management plans. Πνιγμένη σε 110.000 τόνους σκουπιδιών βρίσκεται η Νάπολη

Σε κατάσταση συναγερμού βρίσκεται η Νάπολη και ολόκληρη η περιοχή της Καμπανίας στην Ιταλία, πνιγμένη σε 110.000 τόνους απορριμμάτων που συσσωρεύονται στους δρόμους εδώ και δύο εβδομάδες λόγω της υπερχείλισης των χωματερών. Είναι το τελευταίο επεισόδιο μιας χρονίζουσας κρίσης που έχει τις ρίζες της στη γραφειοκρατία, στην έλλειψη πολιτικής βούλησης, στο οργανωμένο έγκλημα αλλά και στις διαφωνίες των ντόπιων για την αντιμετώπιση του προβλήματος.
