Τέσσερα χρόνια αφότου λάνσαρε το Velolib, την πρωτοποριακή υπηρεσία ενοικίασης ποδηλάτων, το Παρίσι έθεσε χθες δοκιμαστικά σε εφαρμογή ακόμα ένα πιο φιλόδοξο πρόγραμμα, το Autolib, μια υπηρεσία ενοικίασης ηλεκτρικών αυτοκινήτων. France nuclear power funding gets 1bn euro boost

France will invest 1bn euros (£0.8bn) in nuclear power despite warnings after the Fukushima disaster in Japan, President Nicolas Sarkozy says.The new investment will include a boost for research into nuclear safety. The French nuclear giant Areva is developing the fourth generation of reactors. France gets 80% of its electricity from nuclear power. Read more...

ΤΙΠΟΤΕ ΑΠΟ τον συνήθη εαυτό της δεν θύµιζε τις δύο τελευταίες ηµέρες η Λεωφόρος των Ηλυσίων Πεδίων, στην καρδιά του Παρισιού. Εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες άνθρωποι την περπάτησαν - αυτό δεν άλλαξε - αντί για τις βιτρίνες, όµως, χάζευαν χωράφια φυτεµένα µε σιτάρι, φασόλια, αµπέλια, µπανάνες, ανανάδες και εκατοντάδες άλλα είδη δηµητριακών, φρούτων και λαχανικών, όπως επίσης και αρκετές κατσίκες, αγελάδες και άλλα ζώα.
Πίσω από την πρωτοβουλία Νature Capitale και τη διήµερη έκθεση µε το ίδιο όνοµα βρισκόταν η ένωση Νέοι Αγρότες, που εκπροσωπεί περίπου 55.000 γάλλους αγρότες κάτω των 35 ετών. Διαβάστε περισσότερα...

Seining Salmon in the Seine?

Salmon are returning to the Seine after an absence of almost a century as water in the river that runs through Paris has become cleaner in recent years, French scientists said.
Once numerous in the river, Atlantic salmon disappeared from the Seine in the early 20th century, partly due to pollution from Paris sewers.
But scientists celebrated an improvement in water quality in the Seine that has tempted the protected species back to Paris. Read more...

Carbon tariffs falling out of favour as trade war looms

A majority of European countries are reluctant to pick up on current debates in France and the United States about carbon tariffs designed to fend off competition from countries which have not committed to reducing emissions, for fear of triggering a green trade war.
So far, France has been the only member state to openly rally for the introduction of border measures to secure the competitiveness of European industry against emerging economies. It put the measure on the table in 2008 when the EU was immersed in discussions on a revision of its emissions trading scheme (EU ETS). Read more...

France fined over GM crop delay

The EU's top court has ordered France to pay a 10m-euro (£8.7m; $12.9m) fine for delaying implementing EU rules on genetically modified (GM) crops.
The European Court of Justice said France's conduct was "unlawful". France has refused to apply a 2002 law which set out how biotech crops could be planted in areas where other conventional crops were being grown. Read more...

Ηλεκτρικά αυτοκίνητα θα σώσουν το Παρίσι

Σε οικολογική πρωτεύουσα του κόσμου έχει βαλθεί να μετατρέψει το Παρίσι ο σοσιαλιστής δήμαρχος της πόλης Μπερτράν Ντελανοέ.
Μετά το Velib, την πρωτοποριακή υπηρεσία ενοικίασης ποδηλάτων, «εξαπολύει» εναντίον της κυκλοφοριακής συμφόρησης και της ατμοσφαιρικής ρύπανσης ένα ανάλογο πρόγραμμα με ηλεκτροκίνητα αυτοκίνητα. Η λογική στο Voiturelib (Ελεύθερα Αυτοκίνητα) παραμένει η ίδια : 2.000 ηλεκτροκίνητα οχήματα (για αρχή) θα περιμένουν τους Παριζιάνους (που θα έχουν εγγραφεί στη σχετική υπηρεσία) σε δεκάδες ειδικούς χώρους στάθμευσης και ενοικίασης ανά την πόλη. France suspends commercial GMO seed use, studies safety

PARIS (Reuters) - France formally suspended on Thursday the commercial use of genetically modified (GMO) seeds in the country until early February and ordered a biotech safety study.
The future of GMOs has long been the subject of heated debate in France -- Europe's top grain producer -- and the country's reluctance to use GMO crops compares starkly with the United States, which is far more tolerant of the technology. Read more...
